BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

I read a book by Tony Parson when Sarah was around 5 months old. It is a deeply touching book and the part which has best described my feelings when I first looked at Sarah was in the very first page. It is much easier to copy his words than trying to rewrite what he has said,

“I look at this baby – as bald, wrinkled and scrunched up as an old man – and something chemical happens inside me. It – I mean he – looks like the most beautiful baby in the history of the world. Is it – he – really the most beautiful baby in the history of the world? Or is that just my biological programming kicking in? Does everyone feel this way? Even people with plain babies? Is our baby really so beautiful? I honestly can’t tell.”

We seldom hear this question, "Does the baby look like the father or mother?” In my case, the answer tends to be "The father". I sometime feel quite offended for not getting the credit. Like the character in Tony Parson’s book, I obviously feel that my daughter is beautiful. So, when comments are saying that she looks like the father - that means that the beautiful genes are from the father. In other words, the mother is not beautiful a.k.a. ugly.
I am just being sensitive over nothing. I should be thankful for her good health, and that she did not cry for long when she had all those awful jabs, and when she was suffering from eczema, and that painful teething experience. I should be thankful rather than sulking over whom does she resemble most?

After all, even if people say that she looks like the father, I can only gather that not only I have a beautiful daughter, I also have a good looking husband. How perasan is that??? Posted by Picasa
