Our next destination was Dunluce Castle. It was only 10 minutes drive from Giant's Causeway. The children were already tired. Naufal has fallen asleep. Amar slept when we got there. Only Sarah was still semi active.

Because of this and lack of memory space (512KB + 64KB +64KB) on our camera, the visit was only a brief one.
To me, it was an enchanting view. Sarah asked us "Mana ashel (Castle)?" repeatedly. I didn't know what she had in mind. Probably she was expecting a castle like in the movie: Howl's Moving Castle. Or the one in Cinderella's movie.
Dunluce Castle was ruined over time, weather and many sieges in the old days. I was fascinated by the history (and the tales) even to see the skeleton of the Castle that has stood against time was just amazing. I am sure it was once a grand fort by the sea.

There were signs on different sections of the ruins, believed to be the original location of the study room, service room, kitchen courtroom etc.
It was also reported that some parts of the buildings were stolen by the locals as building materials when it was left abandoned by the last occupier, the Sorley Boy MacDonnell clan. (We are talking about the era before 1700s)
and some parts deteriorated and fell into the sea.
The remains however were still strong and now the place is in the care of the Environment and Heritage Service.
I like this photo and I like this historic place so much. Another day to remember indeed!

Cantiknya .... bila tengok gambar2 tu, terus I imagine kalau kat Malaysia, boleh ke maintain places macam ni, so clean and nice. I keep imagining plastik sampah kotak minuman etc etc littered on the ground.

DITH your question is so hard! I'm imagining myself seeing spotlights around the castle when we were there. But I can't remember seeing any. At first, I thought they must be some spotlights:
a) for night visitors cause it's a tourist spot (including hantu, giants, leprechauns. gurau!)
b) also during winter when the days are shorter.
but then,may be it's just a waste of money??? I tried googling for some info including looking for dunluce castle picture at night. tapi tak de!!! sorry dith. tak tahu the answer.
QOTH some places under Environment and heritage service mcm ni charge a MINIMAL fee - kalau tak silap GBP2 baru ni. Giant's Causeway FREE. Cuma bayar parking je GBP5. Memang bersih! Saya pun takut nak buang sampah merata2. RAsanya mentality pelawat kat sini mmg bagus. TApi memang saya cukup ANTI orang yang buang sampah merata2 walaupun sikit, sebab very inconsiderate dan memang sakit mata tgk sampah.
Sherin nice kan? jomlah datang. sherin, esok-esok bila kita ada duit lebih and bila anak2 dah besar - jomlah kita jalan2 sama2. KAlau tak pun, kita tinggal anak2 dengan the dads, and kita jalan dorang. what say you?
simah same here simah! I terbayang that once the palace must have been occupied by a beautiful princess, sleeping beauty ke, rapunzel ke. (definitely not cinderella or snow white) pastu bila baca history dan tales of dunluce castle, i terbayang lanun pulak . or giants.

Insya Allah, we do have plans to go but tgh sibuk and we might wait for kids to be a bit bigger.
