Build n play: Toy Car

These sets of photos were taken on 26 January 2007. Sarah was obsessed with assembling a build-n-play toy car on her own. She was very good at it, I forced myself to get up and get the heavy camera just to capture the moment.

I noticed Sarah arranged the items in groups, ie she grouped the screws together, the wheels etc... Then only she started to assemble the body of the car. If she was not sure, she'd ask me - "Like this, Mama?"

We bought this toy car last August when Atuk and Nanny came to visit. Atuk was the first one to teach her to assemble the car. I've always wanted to buy a build-yourself toy knowing that Sarah would love such toy.

I remember when Sarah was still a little girl, she was fascinated by bottles that have screw tops.
Quietly, she could sit for hours, screwing and unscrewing a bottle cap. I knew then, she has very good fine motor skills.

Not long after Atuk and Nanny went back to Malaysia, I hid this toy car. Just because, it was hard to teach both Sarah and Amar to share a toy. And it was also quite dangerous that Amar kept on putting the tiny screws in his mouth.

Obviously, Sarah found it one day. She automatically became absorbed with the toy and played for hours.

She even knew the functions on the handheld battery operated screwdriver. Click up for clockwise rotation to screw, and click down for unscrewing.

Sarah is such a lively and clever little girl. She's at the stage of trying to learn everything in one day and asks lots and lots of questions. One has to be very patient with her curiosities. And I always remind myself that she means well and it's all part of her growing up process.
