Dinner

It has been an eventful week so far. Beginning with tea at D's house on Monday. Amar had his Pneumonia jab on Tuesday afternoon followed by a brief visit to K.Ros's house. I heard that she is pregnant so since her house is very close to our GP, so we stopped by to say hello.

K. Ros is due in two weeks' time! She has all the baby stuff ready except for muslin squares. I told her that she can get them at Mothercare. But they only come in pastel yellow and green colours only. I offered to hand down Amar's if she didn't mind used ones. Well, they were still in good condition and mainly used for 'bedung' and lap susu.

I invited K.Ros and her family for dinner last night. They arrived around 7.30pm and stayed until around 9pm. As usual Sarah was very excited knowing that someone was coming to our house. She insisted to wear a pair of pink baju kurung complete with pink hair-clips!

Amar was happy too. He kept on running wildly and bumping into my way. Sarah and Amar played with Huda, 3-4 months older than Sarah. Poor Shukri (8-9 years old) was bored because he had no one to play with.

The menu was simple. Popia for starter. Ikan bakar with air asam, ayam goreng for the kids, Salmon masak asam pedas, Kung Po 'King Prawn' and fried mixed vege. Kastad berkrim for dessert and air sirap limau to wash everything down.

K.Ros was very kind to bring along a huge pack of biscuits and SAMBAL IKAN BILIS. She has just received the goods from Malaysia earlier that day and straight away made sambal and gave a tupperware full to us. Who'd want to eat my cooking when there is sambal ikan bilis???

Even Sarah was happy to eat 'fish' with rice. It's just that she had to drink 2 glasses of water to one ikan bilis!

To me, it was a pleasant evening. The Babahs were talking gadgets in the living room, the children were playing in one corner and the Mamas just sat in the kitchen exchanging news and stories.

Since it was a school-day night, they had to leave early. Sarah, who has just warmed up to her new friend protested! She cried and said something like, "Janganlah balik lagi" "Nak main dulu". Sarah really needs friends her age!

Sarah was alright again when I let her carry the "present" (used muslin squares!) and gave it to K.Ros. I promised Sarah to take her to visit her friend, Huda after her mother has delivered the baby.

"the menu was simple"... simple kah itu?? Nampak cam banyak jer! If you said that was simple, I cannot imagine cemana kalau you buat 'elaborate' dish! ;)
Anyway, cantik letak limau kat jug tu. Terliur menengoknya! hahaha.. I nak pi dapur sat buat sirap limau!

i was thinking the same, juwaidah! simple menu to mamasarah is that mouth-watering dinner. anyhow, I guess I can relate to what she means as simple: the usual everyday Malay dishes often taken for granted, and nothing too heavy. Of course, the simplicity is simply splendid! kudos! kudos!

Your Sara is so, so adorable !
Am drooling at your food and more food. But luckily, I have no problem finding Makanan Melayu as they are easy to find and sedap. The price is much much cheaper compared to the UK, because I convert it to pound not to RM. A plate of rice with 3 dishes choice it's only 8 dollars ( plusminus 4 quid ). Where on earth you can get that price for Rice in the UK kan ? Mc D pon costs more than that.

I used to live in Manchester, and Russholme is a heaven for curry lovers. Hundreds of indian restaurant and of course we couldnt dare to go to others as we have our own preferrence. 8 juta kali pegi pon, musti end up with the same, same restaurant.

About the scones, I never tried making it meself. All I did was get it from Tesco or Asda. The tesco one ( with the raisins ) tastes better. And for perfect scones that I've ever tasted ( and yummy ) is the one in Bath, called Sally Lun. It's so nice and yummy and sedap gila cam nak pengsan ( dia punya clotted cream punya creamy cam kalu makan bleh gemok jam tu jugak ).

ps : been busy lately la mamasarah, what with househunting, and sending my son to Pre School. Penat !

1. k.d. Thanks for your email add. Sarah was born in Oct, sayang sangat. Otherwise dapat masuk nursery terus. Anyway, the nearest playschool to our house runs once a week. And most of the toys look tatty. (I sound like a picky mom now, don't I!)

2. Ju Simple lah tu. Apa susah? Goreng ayam, bakar ikan, goreng sayur. hehehe.

3. Kaklong Thanks very much. Sebenarnya nak tahu sumbernya supaya dapat yang arabnya. Tak confident nak baca dalam ejaan rumi.

4. D Kudos to the 'master'. wink*wink* (You lah!)I've learnt to keep things simple. (Itupun penuh dgn kitchen disasters)

5. Rini Your son has started schooling. aaahh. Bestnya. Have you found a house yet? I'm sure you'd prefer Ozzie's homestyle. Spacious with ample size lawn. (Now where did I get that idea from?)

Have you been to 'Rezeki' Restaurant when you were in Manchester? HEard that they serve very good M'sian food (with class)

6. Rini Now you've made me want to go to Bath again.

Must go to Bath. Must find Sally Lunn's buns.
Must go to Bath. Must find Sally Lunn's buns.
Must go to Bath. Must find Sally Lunn's buns.

www.sallylunns.co.uk <-- the (correct link if anyone is interested. (An 'n' was missing)

7. Kaklong Sarah baru belajar makan ikan bilis goreng. Dia ratah makan 'kruk-kruk' bunyinya.

Tapi kami dah lama tak de stok ikan bilis. Payah nak cari kat sini. Bila dapat sambal ikan bilis tu, agaknya Sarah pun nak lepas 'gian'nya. Kesian kat dia. Pedas bagi dia. Tapi bagi kita OK je.

Kesian tengokkan Sarah tu. Nanti kena cari ikan bilis lagi. Mana ntah nak beli kat Coventry ni???

8. Di I think it's called 'Bob' haircut. Will do more research on this matter. Now the battery is running low. And got to catch some sleep. (What am I doing here at 3.20AM????)

Yup been to Rizki. It's kinda posh isnt it ? But I dont really prefer their food as I love Jati more.

Jati is more like a cafe style whilst Rizki is some kinda of restaurant kan and it's BYO ( it doesnt matter to me as I dont take alcohol ) but I love Jati and their teh tarik yang kaw kaw. Sedapnya !

Still house hunting as we couldnt fine a house that we truly love. Nak pindah sekali harung sbb malas nak buat 2, 3 keje nanti. We've been waiting and searching since last Oct and till now, still nothing available. I am getting pissed off and fed-up.
Yup, oz style house with a big backyard ( not a small tiny courtyard ) with a swimming pool. The thing is you can easily have a dip even in Winter.

My son is already in Pre School ( he 3 1/2 ) and I have to commute 20 minutes pergi, and 20 minutes balik. A bit tiring but I have to for we enrolled him at the Pre School near the area that we wanted to live. So better dapat school dulu and look for a house sbb to get into a PRESCHOOL is a bloody nitemare. It was in the news yesterday morning about Pre School in Sydney. It's 8 times harder than any other part of Australia. Alhamdulillah, he secured a place.

ps : Will be in Ireland for xmas this year, and hoping to " spend " a few days in England. Harus pergi Sally Lunns hahahahahahaha !
