War Memorial Park, Coventry

War Memorial Park, Coventry

The first time we passed by this place was in January 2005. It was winter, and I remember promising myself to visit it when the summer comes. Summer came and went, and after at least four more time passing by the park, we finally made a proper visit on Sunday, 30 June 2006.

The park was opened in 1926 as a tribute to the soldiers from the city that lost their lives during World War I. There is a sky-high monument, higher than any trees in the park as a remembrance for the same reason.

The park offers a wealth of activities and events. Including the above clean children's play area.

Sarah, the adrenaline rush addict, enjoyed herself at the playground, while Amar slept peacefully almost the whole time we were there.

We paid £1.50 for Sarah to let loose her steam on this trampoline. She enjoyed herself so much!!!

There were picnic tables and benches suitable for a relax outdoor meal too.

The most interesting attraction was the water feature. It really was something different. Well, maybe I need to go out more, but that was the first time seeing a flat water play area. There were not many children in the water feature, so the place looked reasonably big.

Because this place is free, the children are only allowed 8 minutes per entry. And like any other swimming pool, they have to wear suitable gears and no shoes allowed. Not knowing the existence of the water feature, we didn't bring suitable kit for Sarah or Amar.

We also enjoyed the beautiful beds of colourful flowers. And we also saw the above uniquely carved poppies on a tree trunk. Poppies became the symbol of Remembrance Day (or Poppy Day) because the poppies bloomed in greatest abundance during WWI.

The shady tree lined avenues, not only soothing to the eyes but also a great place for Sarah to run around. After all that, there were still some parts that we missed! The maze-like formal planted gardens, an aviary and some other open space. Hopefully, we will come again when the weather is sunnier.

I just love seeing Mynn walking, playing and having such great time with Sarah. Now that all of my children have grown up, I'm so missing those happy, happy times....accompanying my no.1 and No.2 to Sciennes Primary School in Edinburgh, and skipping back home across the meadows with them. And No.2 will always insist that I stop by at the playground (at the Meadows) so that he could play on the swing.

Yes Mynn, that third pic was so me.....oh nostalgic nya!!!

Thanks for sharing Mama Sarah.

Reading Pycno's reminiscence brought the tune of Rhinestone Cowboy inside my head..and also a mixture of scenes of Little House On the Prairie! :p

mom2ashley ya lah. But we were taking the opportunity of the summer season. When winter comes, we will be stuck at home!

pycnogenol alamak, why i feel like our pycno is writing his comment with watery eyes? hope your Bea keeps a box of tissue by your computer.
you know what Pycno, one day, we will be reading back our entries and start missing our good 'old days' jugak. and yang tak bestnya, both Sarah and Amar tak ingat satu apa pun agaknya.

DITH hahaha DITH so kelakar.

Like a rhinestone cowboy,
Getting cards and letters from people i don't even know... <--- macam blog sikit2 kan?

but why little house on the prairie? Kenapa tak cerita cowboy or red indian eh?

Kami pun suka ke park.. Tp disini lah. Di Malaysia ada ler 1-2kali aje. Coz ramai org dating2 and duduk celah2 pokok..saya tak suka. Lagipun banyak permainan yg ada di park dekat Msia, abis dirosakan oleh org2 yg tidak bertanggungjawab.

Sini pun ada air pancut mcm tuh..Alya dah 2-3 kali minta permision nak mandi..

zakiah isykh, tak sejuk ke pergi time winter? malas lah nak keluar time winter. dah lah cepat malam, sejuk pula tu. Dah tu, kena bungkus tebal2. malas... malas...

Ajzie Ya betul lah. Dah lama sangat 'berenggang' dgn Msia. Bila Ajzie ckp camtu, baru teringat balik 'pemandangan' di taman di msia yang sungguh menyakitkan mata.

Yus Thank you. Ya memang seronok si Sarah tu dan memang sangat bersih.
