At their Best

I like my children to have good rests. When they have good night sleep and enough day naps, they are unlikely to be cranky and irritable.

Sarah developed a regular sleep time since she was about 7 months old. She was good, masyaAllah, provided that it was a total silent surrounding. Until now, she still has her nap during the day for 2-3 hours.

Amar is a different story. It has always been pretty tricky to put him to sleep. His naps lasted for 20-30minutes. Like Sarah when she was little, Amar is super sensitive to noise. Sometimes, I feel sorry for Sarah that she has to whisper whenever Amar is napping. She needs her freedom to play and shout too.

I read somewhere that you don't have to tiptoe when your child is sleeping. They can sleep through the normal daily noise around them. I've tried, but it didn't work.

Since about 3 weeks ago, however, Amar developed his regular nap time himself. Now he naps
at least twice a day. Once in the morning (1-1.5 hrs) and once or twice more (round about 2 hours) in the afternoon. Alhamdulillah.

Yesterday, Amar woke up at 7 am. He played in his cot quietly. Until Sarah awakened at 8 am, and then I changed them and we had breakfast. Almost 10 am, Amar has shown signs of sleepiness. I gave him a bottle of milk, and put him to sleep.

I got a little bit worried when he didn't wake up after 2 hours. I had to check on him. He was still breathing. After he had that asthma attack, I had the reasons to be cautious all the time. I heard stories of cot death and babies died in their sleeps, nauzubillah. May be I should use the baby monitor again.

Amar slept for 4 continuous hours yesterday(!) which was unusual for him to do so during the day.

Today, I should hope he sleeps 3-4 hours again. But I doubt it. Yesterday was just a one off thingy. But who knows? May be he's developing a new sleeping pattern again.
