My Little Scientist
(I'm guessing) Sarah's definition of life must include the words productive and fun. This is an example; Growing a "spring onion". Both productive and fun for our little 2 year old.
She loves this experiment! I keep the "spring onion" by the window in the kitchen. Every morning, Sarah will climb on her red plastic chair to have a peek at her plant. Just this morning, she said,
"Eshar (besar) dah pokok Wawa (Sarah). Ulu(Dulu) echik(kecil) je (sahaja)" Measuring the besar and kecik using her thumb and pointer finger.
Sometimes, she kisses her pokok and says, "hmmm, (w)angi."
Her first science project was a nonsuccess. We gave her a few mung beans (kacang hijau), thought that we could grow some bean sprouts. The project went well at first (or so we thought), but soon stopped growing as the sprouts began to show. We will try again next time.
The spring onion project is her second experiment. It looks like she's having great results and good night sleeps as well (unlike some scientists we know, *wink to Auntie Manis*) She is also working on another experiment; growing potatoes.
This is how we keep her going during the cold days. Indoors activity. I hope she learns something from her science project.

what a superb way to introduce science to her. this shud teach her about patience too. most of all, i think she learns about caring as well.
:) What fun!
But why not cook the sprouts? She would be proud if something on the dinner table was grown by her...
I think I am doing the wrong type of research.
Note to self: growing plants is definitely more fun than growing *6485y$ or waiting for %£%78 to £%^&*&. The best thing is if your project involves edible plants, in the event of experimental failure, why, just have your results for dinner!
Me and my housemate once fantasised about doing a PhD on seawater king prawns.
One wonders how much 'research' would actually get done if we (the selalu lapar and suka makan types) were in charge.
can i join the king prawns project? can i? can i?
sarah pun nak join. dia boleh tolong 'mark' the prawns. Sarah gerenti a good help. dia tak makan seafood, promise!
amar pun nak join. amar boleh tolong do the counting. this way, nobobdy will know about the missing prawns.
to KKL
sebenarnya kan, when the onion tree gets big enough, i AM planning to show sarah that we can cut it up and cook it in nasi goreng!
this is to show her that plants are our source of food, just like fish (that we caught in malaysia).
i hope dia tak ngamuk kalau kita potong.
ps: she also thinks we could eat lizards after watching spirited away.
noooooo
i tertinggal link kat comment atas bie!
hahahah kantoii.. kantoii..
Assalamualaikum
i ingat ada experiment dia dulu with the ladybirds.. that was cute!
experiment with ladybird to those who doesnt know was:
take a few plants from our garden
and 2-3 ladybirds
add one spider
and a caterpillar
mix them together in a transparent jar
dont forget to add airholes (LOL)
observe
simple scientific activity for a 1-2 year old.
:)
auntie de;
*terharu*
you remember that too!! I have to start digging for some photos of the ladybirds project. boleh buat satu entry.
you are so part of us!
