Believe me (Hiyoshi) It's not a food review entry!

We came back straight after Stratford upon Avon. When we reached home, Auntie De was busy changing her kids. Fifi was quite helpful to look after Amar and Uncle De managed to get a wink of sleep.

I prepared some simple and quick to make dinner because I knew that they have another destination to get to. The menu was sambal sotong (yang amat pedas), ayam goreng berempah and shitake mushroom fried in oyster sauce and a selection of seafood.

To sooth tekak yang pedas, I made iced summer berries served in smooth cream soda drink mixed with Whittard Blackberry Tea.

This is embarrassing, but the idea came from a children's TV programme, Big Cook Little Cook! Sarah and Amar watch it everyday. The Chef made the strawberry ice-cubes using sugared water/liquid, freeze them and later crush the icecubes into slurpee. He then added some lemonade.

This is my version;

Some raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Wash and pat dry.

Dice the fruits and/or you can use whole raspberries if you like. Place them in ice tray. Put 500ml of water in a measuring jug and dissolve 1 tbs sugar. I think sugar is optional here. But it may help to reduce the sourness of the fruits. Freeze them. (I prepared the ice the night before)

The summer berries ice cubes

Add in some cream soda. (Or in Malaysia they call it Ais krim Soda?)

For variation, I tried to use Whittard Blackcurrant Flavoured Tea.

iced berries in plain cream soda

iced berries in cream soda and Whittard Blackcurrant Tea

For dessert, we had Tiramisu prepared by Uncle De earlier. I will try to make a proper entry on how to make Tiramisu next time. (Yes Hiyoshi, thanks for reminding me not to spam my kids blog with food entries!)

Uncle De's Tiramisu

Auntie De's friend, Fifi, is an Engineer working for an International company in Malaysia. She is currently in the UK on a business trip. We chatted. Then Auntie De reminded me that this is the person she was telling me before (refering to Fifi) who went out for voluntary work in Pakistan after the earthquake, Indonesia (tsunami) and Cambodia.

I raised my eyebrows, sort of in disbelief that I was actually sitting next to such a noble person. She has my absolute respect for her charitable work. I am glad to have met her and hope to meet more gallant personalities in the future.

We hope that they have had a good time, as much as we have enjoyed having them here. I am very sure Sarah and Amar have both enjoyed their company. The moment they left, Sarah especially, said sadly, "Uncle De balik dah. Auntie De balik dah. Emyr balik dah. Yaya (Safiya) balik dah. Fifi balik dah."

wah the drinks look good!...

simah boleh cuba 7 up. and let me know!
ais krim soda - rasa dia creamy, vanilla and mellow, compared to 7 up and lemonade. rasa tajam. KAlau you nak letak dalam favourite Coke you pun boleh. ;)

hiyoshi kat msia nanti, kita jumpa di kedai makan sahajalah.

sherin segan nya!

mom2ashley try it, and put in your cook blog!

u know, I might just try the berry ice cubes but berries are very expensive here... :)

isk isk makcik2 ni, seronok betul borak pasal resepi...

makcik sherin.. i ada cadangan. kalau berry tak de, apa kata try durian ke, cempedak ke, manggis...

eh sekarang musim buah apa? rambutan tu dah close gak ngan berry. kaler merah...

Anonymous said...

sherin sebenarnya i pun nak suggest, local fruits. I'm sure sama sahaja.

tapi suggestion Pak Nnydd kita suruh guna buah durian tu, agak melampau lah.

ada ke rambutan close warna dengan berry. haha very funny. try again later!

cuba you try with canned fruits - peaches.

strawberry dah tentu ada jual kat msia kan?

mama sarah

One giant durian ice cube...

Sherin de Souza said...

aduh Pak Nydd! First of all, I tak tahula apa rasanya kalau durian dicampur ice cream soda. Takut pengsan pula nanti due to some kind of chemical reaction yang unstabil. :0

Mama sarah, I was thinking of kiwi & canned pears. Fresh papaya pun sure boleh.Mmg ada jual strawberries yg ditanam di Cameron Highlands. Mahal juga but sekali sekala boleh lah splurge on something nice like this.

Thanks.:)

tak de lah mama sarah.. melawak je.. teehee. dulu2 orang kata durian, keladi tak boleh buat ais krim. sekarang dah banyak pulak ais krim perisa keladi, durian etc. haa... kita belum try nih.

i thik rambutan, pulasan, lychee memang boleh jadi ganti. sebabnya, pernah buat. kena buang kulit dulu, pastu buat air gula dan bekukan isi dengan air gula tu. boleh letak lemon, atau Sunkist orange. tak pernah try campur dgn teh, tapi rasanya kalau rambutan dgn lychee tu sedap jugak bubuh dalam teh. pernah try jagung blender, tapi tak best langsung, rasa dia x masuk.

Teringat pasal sushi Mynn, dia kata inti boleh letak apa2 aja: I terfikir letak petai, belcan, dip with tempoyak, hehe

Sherin de Souza said...

dith:
Apa agaknya rasa sushi kalau letak petai, belacan & tempoyak ye? Kalau beri suruh orang Jepun try lepas tu, apa kata depa agaknya.. :)

Nnyd:
I tak pernah makanla ice cream durian but masa kecil-kecil suka makan aiskrim jagung! Susah nak jumpa la sekarang.:)

Mama sarah:
Boleh minta Uncle De punye Tiramisu resipi ke agaknya? Dia letak cheese apa ye?

Anonymous said...

hiyoshi apa kata you buat ice cube durian. sure masuk guinness world book of records.

sherin haaa you have better suggestions! kiwi sounds enticing! i think nice colour too.

nnydd ya Syeikh, sungguh menarik cadangan tu. esp yang letak sunkist orange.

DITH apa kata DITH buat, lepas tu masuk blog. lepas tu kita review rupa dia.

Sherin i pun dah lupa aiskrim jagung!
resepi tiramisu - tulah i berangan nak buat an entry nanti. entah bila tu tak tahulah.
Guna mascarpone cheese.

those are really fabulous party drink, a must try this weekend. I agree tht berries are pricey here in M'sia, so kena modify letak fruits lain ler. It'll still turn out great, esp kalau kita campur biji selasih dlm cubes tu. Boleh tak? Hehe dlm kepala ni mcm2 idea dah meletup2.
BTW thnks for sharing those delish pics!

Mama Sarah said...

biji selasih... hmmmm sedapnya. mana nak dapat kat sini eh?
