Sarah's new haircut

Brace yourself, it's me and my mak nenek story again.

I remember when I was younger, my mother frequently took me to a hairdresser at Bazar Muar.

"Pendek. Macam biasa" was the instruction.

I hated every trip to the salon because I have always wanted long hair like my beautiful cousins.

Everytime after the haircut, this magic spell was always uttered to me; "Just like Princess Diana's haircut"

Now, thinking back.... I have definitely been tricked! BUT most importantly how your mother always knew what to say to make you feel good.

(Must remember... "A Tale of Sarah and Amar"...)

You may have noticed Sarah has a new haircut for quite some time now.

Remember our trip to Wrexham? The weather was super hot the whole week. I had an image in mind. So I borrowed a pair of scissors from Auntie De and chopped off Sarah's hair.

(Am I hearing laughters?) I was close anyway. Sarah didn't want to sit still. So this was the best I could do.

Haircut no.1

When we came back to Coventry, the weather just got warmer. Sarah and Amar were sweating. Their hair constantly looked wet as if they have just got out of shower. Sarah was also scratching her head a lot and looked like she has 'kutu'.

Before people think Sarah has kutu, I chopped more of Sarah's hair.

To this! I thought she would look neat and tidy with short hair.

Honestly though, I felt guilty. But then the style grew on her. It sort of suits her now.

Even Babah said, the haircut was not as bad as he thought.

Unfortunately, short or long hair, Sarah's hair still looks messy most of the time. So much about neat and tidy!

Sarah was born berambut panjang, and lebat.

Even Auntie De couldn't resist to buy some hairclips for Sarah.

There were many occassion when strangers (mat saleh) just stopped by us and tegur betapa lebat nya rambut sarah. Sarah even got some duit(!) from them, especially from the older folks. They said, it's their custom to give money when they see a newborn. (Those were the times when we lived in Cardiff, Wales)

Once we were queueing at Tesco's checkout, when a lady behind us started to be friendly to Sarah. She finally asked Sarah's name. So I said, "Sarah."

She still smiled but said, "Oh, I was expecting some exotic name."

Hmmm what was she thinking? Pokok kelapa?

On many good days, Sarah's hair was constantly brushed.

Or tied up.

However, the hair was especially uncontrollably messy during our outings in open place.

Actually, the hair was always messy even with hairclips.

This is Sarah today.

I made her wear hairband or hairclips just to look less boyish. She didn't complain about her hairstyle. She is a good girl. The only person I have to trick is myself. Yes, it's Twiggy the 60s Supermodel haircut.

Sarah looked a bit like my Sarah when she was a baby. They both had that 'Eskimo' look. I blamed it on too much viewing of 'Gengiz Khan' series that time.

So where did you learn how to snip?
